  • How many crabs are there per pound?

Due to the natural variation in size, we cannot guarantee an exact count of crabs per order. To ensure you receive the required number of crabs, we recommend adjusting your purchase quantity based on the average counts listed below:

  • Do you guarantee live crabs upon delivery?

ATTENTION: Live crabs are extremely fragile, and mortality is an inherent risk.

Customers should anticipate potential loss ranging from 15% to the entire order due to the inherent stress of transportation.

    • Guarantee: Due to this extreme fragility, we cannot guarantee the crabs will be live upon delivery.
    • Refund Policy: We maintain a strict policy of NO REFUNDS for any dead loss or mortality incurred on orders of live crabs.

We advise all customers to accept this risk when purchasing live crabs.

  • How are the crabs packaged for shipping?

Crabs are packed in insulated Styrofoam containers with frozen gel packs to keep them cool but not freezing. They are often nestled in damp newspaper to maintain humidity.

  • How do I know if the crab is still alive?

A live crab should show movement when gently touched. If they are sluggish, place them back on ice. Crabs that are fully lump, completely open, and unresponsive are likely dead and should not be cooked.

  • What should I do with a dead crab?

Any crab that dies before cooking should be discarded immediately. Never cook or consume a crab that was dead upon arrival or died hours before cooking.

  • How long can I keep crabs alive?

To ensure the best quality and safety, crabs should be cooked immediately upon arrival.

If immediate cooking is not possible, you may be able to maintain viability for a few hours by following these short-term storage guidelines:

    • Container: Place the crabs in an open, well-ventilated container (e.g., a cooler with the drain plug removed).
    • Cooling: Keep the container in a cool environment, ideally between 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use frozen gel packs to maintain this temperature.
    • Moisture: Cover the crabs with damp newspaper or a damp towel to keep them moist.

    Crucial Storage Notes:

    • Do not submerge crabs in water. They will use up the oxygen and drown.
    • Do not place crabs directly on ice. The freshwater from the melting ice will kill them.
    • Note: This short-term storage method is not guaranteed to keep all crabs alive. Always cook only the crabs that are still viable (moving) right before preparing.
  • Are the crabs male or female? Can I request all males?

Our jumbo size is male only. For the select size you may choose: Male, Female, or Mixed

  • Are the crabs heavy or light?

We aim to send “heavy” crabs, meaning they are full of meat. Lighter crabs are typically shed recently and have less meat, but this is sometimes unavoidable. We always try to send the best quality available.
